Otherwise, using particles and volumetric materials to simulate a flame is probably a much better solution. The POSER-specific OBJ version was exported with a scale conversion that should load with the appropriate scaling into Poser 9 and above. I recommend using it only if you need the candle lit, and have no volumetric flame/fire alternative in your software. The preview renders I created for this object in Octane are using the flame, illuminated with the same map I have provided.

If your software supports self-illumination, I have provided a self-illumination map to use, if desired. You may need to tweak or adjust the power of the bump and specular maps in your software to get the optimum results for rendering.*I have included a fairly simple flame object, which you can load with the model in youre scenes. Each texture map is provided in maximum quality JPG format, with resolution of 2048x2048 pixels, and is suitable for extremely close-up rendering. The model consists of 17,915 polygons and 18,325 verts. There is a custom diffuse (color), bump, and specular map for each sub-object, and also an illumination control map for the optional flame model*, if you wish to use it. This object comes complete with high detail texture maps for every necessary material channel, for the most control over your resulting render. obj formats, for importing easily into other applications, like Blender, Poser, or Daz|Studio. You might imagine this unique model as a Halloween centerpiece, useful for specific arch/viz interior decor gracing a fireplace mantle, for example, or as a fun prop for any character render. This highly detailed, unique candle holder centerpiece model is available in several scaled. Once your program is loaded simply click Send and the machine will run the program. When the datums are set, press ‘ safe position’ and if you set it up as shown previously in this article, your machine will move back to its home position. When in position press the Zero XY and Zero Z buttons. Use the Jog functions to position your tool where you need your three axis datums to be. The 3018 cnc engraver came bundled with Candle software so if you are considering buying one of these machines I suggest you check out my review.

I’m demonstrating this tutorial with my 3018 machine that I bought for my full review and setup tutorial.

Running an imperial G code program will produce a correctly sized project as long as the G20 code (inches) is specified in your program. There does not appear to be any way of changing this. You can run a G code program in either metric or imperial but Candle will only show millimeters in the ‘state’ readouts. The first few lines of the program should be visible in the bottom section of the screen. This will put your program in the ‘ queue’ ready to be sent to your machine when you press ‘ send’.

Once you have your program, you can click ‘open’ or ‘file’ > ‘open’. ConsoleĪ program needs to be created first, you can check out my JScut tutorial for help on this.

Make sure you don’t check the box by mistake, having it checked will prevent you from using the console. The controls to move your axes are as follows, (Thanks to Giulio for the information)

The final option is a checkbox for enabling keyboard control.

The next choice is the feed, select your feedrate, for example a slower feed, allowing for finer manual control. There is a stop button in the center of the X Y direction buttons if you need to prevent a crash. The other options are all incremental movements, all shown in millimeters.Ĭhoose a distance you want to move and pressing a direction button will move the axis the chosen distance. The movement will stop when the button is released. Selecting ‘ Continuously’ will move the axes continuously while the direction button is pressed. The ‘ step’ drop down menu gives you the option of controlling the axis movements in different ways.
